Session 6 - Shared Space - Part 5

Transcript

What’s useful about the team habit builder is not that everyone agrees to the same behaviour. In fact, this example showed that there were wildly different definitions of what “a clean workspace” means.

Recognize that the reason you're fighting about this topic is because you have dramatically different interpretations of what a clean office looks like. You may be able to come to consensus, but you may not.

In this type of situation the team may come up with the basics; the bare minimum of cleaning that needs to be done. For example, everyone agrees to put their dirty dishes in the dishwasher, but not everyone agrees to wipe down the counters and clean out the fridge.

What’s most useful is that different team members got to describe what they think are toward moves. Even when not all team members are behaving the same way, we can recognize our team members are making toward moves even if they don’t do all of the things on the list.
