Session 4 - Using the Habit Builder - Values

Transcript

Step 1: know your values about who *you* want to be in the situation.

If you’re heading into conflict, you want to think about who you want to be. If there was a camera watching you, what would make you feel proud about how you had showed up? Now, this doesn’t mean you have to give in or back away from conflict. Sometimes standing up for yourself is exactly who you want to be.

In conflict, people commonly say things like: “I want justice, fairness. I want to be respected, I want them to see my point of view.” But these are all about what you want the other person to do not who you’re going to be, so these are not values.

If justice is important to you then how are you going to *contribute* justice to the world? That’s a value, not whether *you* should *get* justice.
